Over 950 Dead, 4,400 Missing After Catastrophic Nepal-China Border Floods

Following the disaster resulting in the collapse of a glacier causing floods in the region of Nepal and China border on Wednesday 26th August 2026, rescuers have been attempting to get to about 500 people stuck in mud-filled hydropower tunnels in Rasuwa and Nuwakot districts of Nepal. The number of deaths caused by the incident in both countries exceeds 950 people, with over 4,400 missing persons, including 900 hydropower projects workers, besides other foreigners. Despite the arrival of international experts in rescue operations, such as Arnold Dix from Australia, an expert in tunnels, along with oxygen supply to some areas, the dwindling resources and increasing mud make life harder for the victims, while the Chinese have started to rebuild roads flooded by water to access the area.
